Completion of Social Cohesion Event – Theater Workshop “Stories in Motion: Playback Theater for Connection”
On Sunday December 14, the Social Cohesion Event of the HELIOS+ project took place successfully: an experiential Playback Theatre workshop titled “Stories in Motion: Playback Theatre for Connection.” The aim of the event was to strengthen social cohesion through interaction and creative expression between refugees participating in the program and other members of the local community.
During the workshop, participants shared personal stories and experiences, which were brought to life on stage by the professional actors of the Playback–Echo group, fostering an environment of mutual understanding, empathy, and recognition.
Objectives and outcomes of the activity
The workshop contributed to the following:
- Strengthening contact and interaction between refugees and local residents
- Promoting empathy and mutual understanding through storytelling and theatrical representation
- Creating a safe space for expression and empowerment of participants
- Cultivating intercultural dialogue and building relationships of trust
Collaboration with the Playback–Echo group
The event was implemented in collaboration with the Playback–Echo group, a Social Cooperative Enterprise based in Thessaloniki. Since 2015, the group has been promoting Playback Theatre through performances in social and educational institutions, training seminars, and participation in European programs, conferences, and institutional initiatives.
At the end of the workshop, participants left with a sense of being heard, acknowledged, and connected with people beyond cultural or personal boundaries. A small but important reminder that our shared human experience can become a bridge for understanding and cooperation.
The HELIOS+ Project of IOM Greece is co-funded by the European Social Fund+ (ESF+) under the Regional Programmes 2021–2027 and is fully aligned with the country’s National Integration Strategy.
