On Wednesday, June 5th, students from the MDAT/YMCA Thessaloniki ILC had the opportunity to participate in an enlightening educational trip to the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography. The visit centered around the museum’s current exhibition, “HerStories. Photographic practices, 1974-2024,” which aims to highlight female photographic production from the Regime Change (Metapolitefsi, 1974) to the present day.
The exhibition is thoughtfully curated into three complementary narratives. These narratives delve into various aspects of photographic practices over the past five decades: exploring approaches to female identity, documenting social and political realities, and experimenting with the photographic medium. Each section offered a unique perspective and showcased the evolution and impact of female photographers in these areas.
Throughout the tour, students were able to see a wide array of works that illustrated these themes. The diverse and often experimental works presented a powerful narrative on the role of women in photography and their contributions to the art form.
Following the tour, a brief discussion was held to delve deeper into the exhibition’s themes, allowing students to engage with the material on a more profound level and share their insights and reflections.
This enriching experience was organized and facilitated by Diotima Centre, an organization dedicated to the prevention and treatment of gender-based violence. Their efforts ensured that the trip was not only educational but also aligned with broader social issues and awareness.
